LOOP Facts

Please remember we are not only for officers that are laid-off or facing a layoff.  We are here for all of our brother and sister officers, regardless of agency, rank, union, race, sex or any other factor.

WE ARE ALL ONE HERE!

Additional Information

In June 2009, 2010 and 2011, we had a booth to assist laid-off officers and to raise awareness that there are trained officers out there waiting to be hired.  It assisted those interested in hiring trained officers to meet us and ask about our services and members.  It was an enjoyable experience for everyone involved and one we will be doing again.  I simply cannot tell you what a positive response I have received for doing this.  Many people have learned about us and how important our cause is.

We also participated in the Rally for the PBA in West New York, where 22 officers are facing a layoff.  We want to prevent others from becoming unemployed, which will leave our streets unsafe.  This Rally was a huge success and averted a layoff.  Crime is on the rise, not tumbling.  One officer short is one too many.  One life lost, is one too many.  These are tough times and there are tough decisions to be made, but not at the expense of officer or citizen safety or both.

There are classes of new recruits and alternate routes* in the police academies across the state for the last three years, while trained officers with families are sitting home unemployed.  This should not be happening.  We were told the Rice Bill has flaws/loopholes that have been expolited to avoid utilizing it.  We were told three years ago amendments were coming, but we feel there needs to be more done to protect those that protect you and your families.  The age, training, re-hiring and title areas of laid-off officers must be protected and make the re-employment process simple and put them at the top, before any other persons can be hired off the street or from another agency not facing or before a layoff.

*To the best of our knowledge Alternate Routes Program had finally been stopped about 6-9 months ago.

We may list members information and other significant things, job fairs, or an appointment. This is a great way to keep up to date on what we have done.

Member Benefits

Our members are close friends and stand together to properly protect ourselves in the event of a layoff or threatened layoff. We are currently working on developing a data base of existing job openings, as well as, attempting to get hiring agencies to utilize our list of laid-off members to assist with their staffing needs.

  • Being a part of a unique organization that understands the difficulty of becoming re-employed in your chosen profession.
  • A support group dedicated to assisting you with your situation, either facing a layoff or already laid-off.
  • Becoming a part of a network between hiring agencies, other laid-off officers.
  • Having the support of the NJ State Association of Chiefs of Police and the ability to attend their annual Police-Security Expo in Atlantic City and other great events.
  • We plan on lobbying for laws to protect those that have already paid their dues, passed the requirements and have proven they can do the job.
  • We plan on networking with Police Academies and the Police Training Commission to find ways to protect our training during the period of unemployment or expanding upon existing training.
  • Allowing LEO's a choice and the opportunity to change things.

We are a new organization and trying to get the word out.  We have a brochure to distribute if you would like to see it.  We will make every attempt to deliver these and other services as quickly as possible.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.
